My first job in coffee was during college when I got a part time job at a Dunn Bros in Roseville, MN. Dunn Bros is a Minnesota franchise that is known for each of their coffee shops to roast all their coffee in house. The one I worked at was no different, in fact, Ed Dunn came in and roasted for this shop. Ed Dunn was one of the guys who started Dunn Bros. At Dunn Bros there was always at least two different options for drip coffee, Full City Roast (a dark roast) or a DARKer roast. From what I recall, Dunn Bros was known for it’s dark and heavy coffee, and I really liked it. During that particular time in life I have some great memories. I would meet up with a friend and we would stop by the coffee shop and fill up our thermos of a nice dark roast and drive out towards Stillwater or Taylor's Falls and do some rock climbing. In these great memories, coffee played a significant role.
As you may have already guessed, the wild side is on the dark roast side.
Much of how I envision Fika Coffee and the experience that I want to share with people, is based directly off of my own experiences with coffee and what I really like about it. I have my very own coffee experience, as do you. We all have our very own personal coffee experience, and to each of us it is right, whole, and complete. Now everyone is not like me and most likely has other coffee preferences that are different from mine. What is important to Fika Coffee is that we can all share coffee together. I offer this dark roast as a bridge to our other coffees that we roast, I’m learning to speak your language to learn how to best meet the needs of the market around me from locally to globally.
So there you go, I took a walk on the wild side and roasted a dark roast.
